Yangyang is better known for its surf, but the valley road behind it has been a mineral-water stop for centuries.
The Osaek springs sit in a rock streambed under Seoraksan, a short walk from the car park on level ground. The water comes up iron-rich and cold; the hot spring hotels are a few minutes further up the same road. Either way the day is arranged around water rather than distance.
